University Internships

The Sawa World University Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to learn and engage with Sawa World’s innovative and cutting edge approach to solving extreme poverty with local solutions. The duration of a typical internship is 6 to 8 weeks, and includes an overview of Sawa World in Vancouver, and field work in Uganda.

The interns will travel to Uganda for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. While there, students are partnered with our inspiring community entrepreneurs (Sawa Leaders). The students will analyze the unique leadership and innovations of the Sawa Leaders. Additionally, the students will support the Sawa Leaders by identifying local income options to scale their project impact. The interns will complete a final assignment at the Sawa World Uganda office at the Centre of Entrepreneurship & Small Business at St Lawrence University in Kampala.
The internship fees support the following activities:
introduction training by the Sawa World team in Canada,
support from a local Program Internship Coordinator in Uganda,
airport pickup and drop-off,
mentorship from a Sawa Leader for 4 weeks,
a day excursion to a sight of interest,
ashort video on the internship experience, and
review of theinternship and farewell celebration.
The program fee provides income for the Sawa Leaders to guide the intern during the 4-week field experience. Additionally, the program cost provides a fee for the Sawa World team in Uganda to manage the internship, including fees for the Sawa Youth Reporters to produce a short videos.
